Kentucky State Poetry Society
The Kentucky State Poetry Society (KSPS) was founded in 1966 by a group of Kentuckians with a love for poetry. Among this
group was Jesse Stuart, Kentucky Poet Laureate, who continued to support KSPS until his death in 1984.
In addition, KSPS is a proud member of the National Federation of State Poetry Societies. Why? Because membership in
NFSPS supports credibility in poetry! It offers a venue of support for many programs, to include the acknowledgement of the
accomplishments of various state members and opportunities for recognition in poetry--most importantly, perhaps, to
STUDENT writers. KSPS is committed to supporting the writers of America's future and joins NFSPS in that goal.
Membership in the Society is not limited to Kentuckians! Our members come from all over the US, Canada, and beyond, and
have many vocations and lifestyles. Several KSPS members have published poetry in some of the nation's finest publications
and have books to their credit. Other members have yet to be published -- it matters not to us. Our common bond is an
appreciation for poetry. If you share this interest, you are invited to join us.
