Weaving a New Eden – Wind Publications -- Kentucky was the New
Eden and Rebecca Boone was its Eve. Taking Rebecca as its
center,
Weaving a New Eden gives voice to a chorus of the women
who settled and populated Kentucky over two centuries. These are
the women Moses Austin saw in 1798, crossing the Appalachians in
dead of winter, with
barely as maney raggs as covers their
Nakedness
, to find Paradise. These are the descendants of those
women, not the plantation belles but the women of the washed-out
hill farms, the women of the ruined wilderness of the Ohio Valley.
Weaving a New Eden lets Kentucky’s earthy women rise up and
have their say. They are not reverent.

Weaving a New Eden is 108 pages, 8.8 x 5.7 x 0.4
inches, 5.6 oz., soft-covered. Retail price is $15.90
(including Kentucky sales tax). The book is available
from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, independent book
stores, or the publisher.

The Angels’ Share -- Out of the chaotic nineteenth century period
of reconstruction comes former Sergeant Jack Grady of the
Stonewall Brigade, his family, and a diverse cast of southern
characters trying to rebuild their ravaged land. In the summer of
1865, Jack, his son, and two other veterans make an epic journey
across the war-torn South. Meet this beleaguered farm family from
the Tennessee mountains and get a perspective of our nation that
transcends and enhances textbook history.

Pilgrim Heart -- This collection reverberates with rural tradition,
heartbreak, and salvation. There are individual stories wrapped in
historical events; a drummer boy at the battle of Petersburg, a
Confederate widow going through her dead husband’s backpack, a
peddler from Kansas who is not who he seems, murder on a Civil
War battlefield, a farm boy with a broken heart, and others. Included
are essays about a dog named Molly, a man’s last hunt, and
boyhood recollections of the game of golf. The poems concern
themselves with nature, earth, sky, and human longings. All in all, it
is a compilation concerning the landscape of life.

The Dailiness of It  continues the story begun in Palencia's first
poetry collection,
Taking the Train.

"The poems in this collection--by a poet-mother writing about
her mutiply handicapped boy-man--are partly like astonishing
bits of news from a family album, and partly like astonishing
bits of news about the human condition in general.  These
poems are deeply personal and acutely universal.  Elaine
Palencia's son, Andrew, is seen from the outside and inside,
in all of his heroic and anti-heroic self.  As a mother of a
disabled son, I can vouch for the veracity of these poems...
there is devastating honesty in every line."

                                                                           and The White Palazzo

Spirits Walking
by Lori Goff

Lori Goff’s short stories weave family relationships in a special blend of love,
faith and the simple life dating back more than seventy-five years.  The stories
convey the hardships in a rural area, the life lessons learned, and the closeness
people felt with nature in the hills and hollows of northeastern Kentucky.

In Spirits Walking, Lori Goff has created a sense of place that takes us to the hills
of Kentucky to discover the cultural heritage of a people.
–Margo LaGattuta, poet
and essayist

Lori Goff beckons us in Spirits Walking inside the bittersweet, earthy culture of
the south exposing the dualities of mountain society.  These short stories and
poems will leave the reader moved by a striking sense of life and loss.

Katharine Beaman, author of
The Translator

Digging Bones - Finishing Line Press - 2010
A chapbook of Poetry, $12.00 (add .84 tax for KY residents)

From first-kiss Woody to husbands and lovers with their boxes of junk,
and finally down to her one true love, their hands linked in a well-worn hinge,
Barb McMakin excavates her life.  "Would we miss them any less if our time
together had been perfect?" McMakin asks in this insightful collection.  These
poems unearth the treasure and pain of the ordinary, the sudden and subtle
realizations of a woman who chooses to engage whole-heartedly with those
who people her world.
-Mary O'Dell, President, Green River Writers

Barb McMakin writes the everyday, but beneath each poem is a well placed
shadow. Her free verse echoes like rhyme.  Come dig bones with this special
woman.  It is a quest you won't forget.
                    -E. Gail Chandler
